Chièvres VOR CIV, 30 July 2009.

This VOR is located at an airbase, together with a tacan. The tacan is quickly found, the VOR not. At one moment Wim sees in a flash a VOR antenna case above a field. It is not the best spot for taking photos. But after half an hour looking for a better place to make photos Wim had to decide that it was the only spot where he could see this beacon.

Route from Brussels to CIV, about 53 km – 41 min.
Start in southwesterly direction at the R0 towards Mons (Bergen). After approximately 6 km take exit 21-Halle and go onto the E429 towards the N203a/Lille/Doornik/Rijsel. Follow the E429 for 31.5 km and take exit 29-Lessines to the N57 towards Ath/Grammont/N7. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Chaussée de Grammont/N57 towards N7/Ghislenghien/Soignies/Ath.
Go straight on at one roundabout and follow the road for 2.2 km. Go on at Chemin de Chièvres and after 200 metres turn right to stay on Chemin de Chièveres. Follow this road for 7.3 km towards Chièvres – the road will change name for several times. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit to Grand’Rue/N525 and follow the N525 for 2.1 km. At Chièvres, turn left at Rue de la Chappelle, after 600 metres go on at Rue Auguste-Criquelion, after 100 m go on at Rue du Bois de Lens. After 1.1 km turn left to stay on the Rue du Bois de Lens, after 800 m turn left onto a small nameless road. After about 100 metres you can see most of CIV on the RHS.
