Back to beacon list.

Clacton (on Sea) VOR/DME CLN, 25 June 2005.

This beacon is near Harwich. We came with the Stena HSS to England and went to this site straightaway. It's located between Thorpe-le-Soken and Wheeley along the B1441. There are several ways to this beacon along public footpaths. Trevor Diamond followed this route:
From Wheeley along the B1441 to the south-east. Between Wheeley and Wheeley Heath go left into Church Lane. Park your car near the church. You follow Church Lane towards Wheeley Lodge and at one point you will see the beacon in front of you. Or you go via Wheeley Hall Wood.

We came from Thorpe-le-Soken over the B1441. After the railway viaduct there was a row of houses on the RHS, The last one is a farm. The official entrance to the beacon goes via the farm entrance (private). A Stretch of road without houses on this side follows. Park opposite the first house on the RHS of the road. There is a public footpath on the RHS of the road. It goes to the road coming from the farm earlier along the B1441. Follow the road and you will see the beacon on the left.
