Southampton (Eastleigh)EAS / SAM, July 5th 2005

We came from Oxford over the A34 and near Southampton over the M3. Then we took the M27 east and followed the signs for Southampton Airport. That is exit 5 and A335, at the roundabout take the exit towards the railway station. Next roundabout left and you come at the airport area. Follow this road - it goes to the long stay parking and runs parallel to the railway. After some time it runs parallel to the runway and soon you will see the Locator behind the fence. Just before you arrive at the long stay parking you can see the VOR/DME, far away at the other side of the runway.

Beware! You're not allowed to park on this road or to park on the verges. At regular times airport busses run over this road. Also the fence makes it difficult to make good pictures.
At the day we went there, there was a heavy drizzle. Only with the camera of Wim we were able to make pictures of the beacons under these circumstances.
On a day with good weather and enough time I would have tried to walk over the public footpath that starts at Eastleigh Sewage works and goes to the backside of the airport, and give it a try to make pictures from that side of the airport. On the map it looks like a nice walk along the River Itchen.

VOR/DME SAM, just visible through the rain.

Locator EAS, it was not easy to take this picture through the fence in just a minute.
