Back to beacon list.

Cola DVOR/TAC COL, May 4th 2009.

If we would held a contest about which beacon is located at the most beatifull spot in nature, this beacon would be high on our list. Problem with beacons at this kind of location is that it is very difficult to find them because of the scrubs and trees that surround them. As is also at this beacon. Luckily this type of VOR has always an extra antenna mast in the neighbourhood. And just as at OLNO last year Wim noticed this mast so we did know we where very near to the beacon. The route to this beacon was leading us over very bendy roads with hairpin bents, lots of forest, a splendid surrounding for a holyday in case you like nature.

Route from A560 near Cologne to COL, ca 40 km – 40 min.
Start in direction east at the A560 to exit 6-Hennef (Sieg)-West (ca. 5 km.) Go further on the B8 (signs for Altenkirchen/Uckerath.) After 21.1 km turn left onto the Herchener Strasse/L276 (follow signs for Rosbach/Sieg/Waldbröl/Leuscheid/Herchen), follow this road over 3.9 km. Go further on at the L147 for 2.2 km. Go on for 5.2 km at the K7n. Take the exit for the K23/Rother Strasse and after 200 metres turn left onto the K23/Rother Strasse. Turn right after 62 metres onto the Leuscheider Strasse and follow this road for 1.2 km. Turn left onto Steinkuhle, after 50 metres turn left to stay onto the Steinkuhle and after 150 metres turn right into a small nameless road. You find COL after 50 metres at the LHS.
