Cologne VOR/DME KBO, 4 June 2008.

This beacon is located at the middle of the airport. Around this airport are lots of military terrains and ex military terrains. For the last there are warning signs stating that there can be not exploded ammunition in the ground and only the official roads are safe.
We found a spot along the fence of the airfield at the east side. It was warm and humid weather. This made it difficult to make a good photo at this distance. Wim used his long telephoto lens and the result you can see on this page.

We started at LJ to the KBO beacon. The following route is ca 10km long.
Go in south-east direction at the L284/Rösrather Straße to the Brück-Rather Steinweg. Turn right after 2.7 km onto the L73/Rather Mauspfad. Turn after 1.2 km right onto Heumarer Mauspfad/L489/L73 and stay on this road for 2.7 km. Go left onto Alte Kölner Straße/L8, stay on this road for ca 4 km.
At first the Alte Kölner Straße/L84 goes straight on, after 3.5 km it makes some gentle curves. After those it turns to the left. In this bent there goes a path to the right. This path is coming soon at the fence of the airport. Look for a safe spot where you can have a good view at the airfield and you will see far away the beacon.
