Avord Locator AV, August 5, 2008.

In a small area around Avord and Nevers there are four beacons. Most times we do visit them by name, so first Avord, then Nevers, but in this case the route NEV, AVD, NV & AV is the better one.
It is possible to switch NV and AV in depending on the location of the beacon that will be visited after this four.

Route from NV (Sermoise-sur-Loire) to AV, ca. 27 km – 34 min.
If you are at the gate of NV, turn around and go back along the path. At the end of the path go right, after 400 metre go right again onto the D13 and follow the D13 for 1.4 km. Take at the roundabout the 2nd exit onto the D907a, go straight on over one roundabout and follow the D907a for 1.4 km. Take the 2nd exit at the Rond-Point de 1ére Armée Française onto the D976. After 0.6 km you take the 3rd exit at the roundabout onto D976/Route de Bourges, follow the D976 for 6.7 km. At Le Guétin you take the 2nd exit at the roundabout to the D976/Route de Guerche. [See also tourist information below.] Follow the D976 for 1.1 km to Apremont-sur-Allier. Turn left onto the D45/Route d’Apremont and go on for 4.5 km. Turn right onto the D100 and after 700 metre there is an easy bent to the left onto the D76. Follow the D76 over 7.9 km and turn right onto the D78/Route de Mornay and follow for 1.6 km, going straight on at one roundabout at Grossouvre. Turn right to follow the D78/Route de Véreaux.
After 600 metre you find going to the right the Chemin des Bannes, on this corner you will find beacon AV.

[Tourist information] Along the river Loire there runs the ‘Canal Latéral á la Loire’. At Guétin this canal is crossing the river Allier with an aqueduct, build around 1835. There are two locks necessary to bring the ships from valley level to the level of the aqueduct. The canal is being feed with water from the river Allier at a point near to Apremont-sur-Allier. At that point you find an ingenious build system to keep sand and silt out of the canal system. The route to AV is running along both very interesting places.
