Luton Locator LUT, 1 July 2005.

Luton Airport is east of Luton. The beacon is located at a spot east of the airport, in line with the runway and about 5 miles (8 km) from the centre of the runway.

From Hitchin – north/east of Luton – goes the B656 towards Welwyn. After a few miles you go to the right onto the B651 towards St.Pauls Walden. After a road to the right there is a wood (Hitch Wood) on the RHS. Take the first road to the left – towards Langley and Knebworth. This road is about a car width wide. After 500 metre there is a path (with a gate) to the left. The beacon is at the end of it.

We had a lot of difficulties finding this spot. For that reason we give you the following route:
From St.Pauls Walden you go to the north. After 500 metre you can see a beautiful gate on the LHS. This is the gate of Stagenhoe. You probably will notice the airplanes going straight over the driveway of Stagenhoe. The road (B561) now goes through a wood and after about 500 metre there is a narrow road going right. The beacon is 500 metre from the beginning of the road at the LHS at the end of a path.

Yes, this is the spot!

Just a look over the fence.

Waiting for the right moment for a photo.

You can see them turn in the direction of Luton.

The path - behind the gate - goes to the Beacon.
